366 years ago, the Kingdom of Therum was the most powerful in the land. However the King and Queens relationship seemed to grow more and more detached every year, their politics were different, their attitudes were different, polar opposites. One day, an anonymous conspiracy theorist claimed to have inside information of a bastard child being born from one of their infidelity. Word soon got around to the entire Kingdom, causing vicious civil unrest. Inevitably people started to take sides, those who believed the Queen committed adultery were named Kingslanders, the opposite were named Queenslanders. A civil war of sorts broke out throughout the Kingdom where discrimination and violence were commonplace. After 3 and a half months of madness, the Kingdom issued soldiers and magic users to cull the population and bring order back to the land. The identity of whoever issued this order was forever unknown, the King and Queen both never truly revealed who made the call. This order, to the dismay of the kingdom, sparked what is historically known as "The 100 Year War" The kingdom unknowingly started a war against itself, the Kingslanders and Queenslanders both taking sides and slaughtering each other. The war soon developed even more, The Kingslanders and the Queenslanders both donned their respective Aesthetic. The Kingslander soldiers had a tattoo of a scorpion on their neck and the Queenslander soldiers were tattooed with a wolf on their neck, making for easy identification in war. As the war raged on, civilians and those who were too sick to fight fled to the North and South of the Kingdom. The majority of the fighting took place in the middle of the kingdom in the 3 capitol States "Pseri", "Raba", and "New Capira". After 99 years of war, The next king and Queen wanted to stop the merciless and pointless killing. So on January 1st of the new year, they signed a peace treaty, stopping the war completely. What used to be the 3 capitol states are now a barren wasteland of sand now named "Greybar". Those who were too poor or too sick to move North or South during the peak of the war, stayed in Greybar, and their children also stayed in Greybar. and so did their children's children. Spawning villages and tiny cities in the wasteland.
In the world of Therum, combat is not governed by traditional hit points or health bars. Instead, it operates on a more immersive and realistic injury-based system. When engaging an enemy, the player begins by choosing a specific limb or body part to target—this could be an arm, leg, head, or torso. Rather than rolling for a flat damage number, the outcome of your attack is determined by a roll that reflects both the depth and accuracy of your cut, strike, or bash. This level of detail adds tactical weight to every encounter. Deeper and more precise hits may rupture arteries, break bones, or cause critical wounds, leading to substantial bleeding or debilitation. The body’s reaction to such trauma is tracked using a pain meter. As pain accumulates, it begins to hinder your physical attacks and the effectiveness of your spells. In severe cases, overwhelming pain can render you incapable of fighting at all. To mitigate this, adventurers often rely on fire users—who can cauterize wounds—and water users, who are skilled in healing arts. Quick intervention may be the difference between survival and defeat. Another critical aspect of this system is focus. Focus is the fundamental energy from which all spells and special abilities emerge. It is not just mental clarity but a union of mind, soul, and body. You also have a focus meter, which interacts dynamically with your pain meter. Pain reduces focus, and focus, when channeled properly, can suppress pain. However, pain is not your only enemy. Certain enemies are capable of psychological attacks. These don’t target your body—but your mind. A successful mental assault can completely shatter your focus, severing your ability to cast spells altogether. In such moments, even the most powerful mage may find themselves vulnerable and unable to act. This unique combat system demands awareness, resourcefulness, and emotional resilience. Battles in Therum are not just fought with steel and fire—but with your body’s endurance and the strength of your spirit.
